<FORTUNE LAND– Gold Leaf>

The 2018 Sulwha Cultural Exhibition: FORTUNE LAND – Gold Leaf will present new artworks by 12 contemporary artists and teams who work with the Korean traditional “gold leaf” technique, and 3 works by traditional gold leaf masters. The diverse spectator-participatory works, which reinterpret the aesthetic sense of traditional gold leaf art in contemporary ways based on the theme “amusement park,” will satisfy visitors’ five senses through a balance of popularity and artistic value, Eastern-Western cultural exchange, and harmony of old and new.

<Jaumsaeng Masterpiece Set Collection>

The zelkova wood vanity mirror reflects the elegant hues of the Jaumsaeng line; its structure is the work of Master Joiner Jo Hwa-sin (Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 55), while the metal fittings—adorned with Sipjangsaeng (Ten Symbols of Longevity) motifs such as deer, pine trees, and rocks—were crafted by Master Metal Artisan Park Mun-yeol (Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 64). Together, these elements embody Sulwhasoo’s noble dedication through the exquisite artistry of traditional masters.

<Screen, the overlap of traditions and modern society>

Just as our ancestors used to enjoy the changes of scenery as they opened and closed the Screens and doors in their houses, utilizing the media wall as media for the "screen" in downtown we are looking at the traditions, and we see the modern society from within. This year was the year that required consolation more than any other, Hoping to sympathize with viewers who are watching through the enormous Screen in the city and wishing for the peaceful days to come back to us.

<Silan Masterpiece Collection>

This silver box, crafted with 99.9% purity by Master Kim Young-hee (Intangible Cultural Heritage No.18), features a lotus flower, a representative royal motif, and amber (symbolizing Sulwhasoo's representative color) set in the center, decorated with arabesque patterns symbolizing reincarnation and resurrection on an openwork jade plate, and six pearls and jadeite arranged in balance along the edges.

Centered on the middle, a phoenix, an imaginary animal symbolizing 'auspiciousness,' sways gently on a spring, adding a sense of rhythm to complete a small universe on the silver box.

<Season 1 Gakgesuri>

A traditional wooden cabinet from the late Joseon Dynasty, designed to store valuables such as documents, jewelry, or medicine. Its chest-like form features hinged doors that open to reveal multiple drawers, while metal fittings on the corners and hinges enhance its decorative elegance.

<Season 2 Minhwa>

Minhwa is a Korean folk art that emerged from everyday life during the Joseon Dynasty, expressing wishes for peace and prosperity. Featuring symbolic motifs like tigers, dragons, lotus flowers, peonies, and bookshelves, it is known for its bold compositions and vibrant colors.
